Change can be good! Making the right changes can also be a positive thing for most people. I ended this last year slowly getting some things ready for upcoming changes. Here is my list of 20 things I intend on changing this year.
This is not a list of goals or resolutions for 2023. This is a set of changes I will make for this year. Some of these I have already begun and some will not get done until I’m further into the year.
My hope is that these changes will improve the way I work and get things done. Many of these are also meant to make life a bit happier and makes for more positive vibes.
So here’s a cheers to you, with a Harvey Wallbanger in hand, that you have a positive, productive and successful new year. Let me know if you have some changes or goals you’d like to get going this year.
1. I will be updating my music playlist. I keep adding more songs to it and it has gotten out of control. I’m going to whittle it down to the songs that inspire me the most and bring back the best memories. I’m going to make the playlist just over 90 minutes so each time I listen out on the trail I’ll get to hear almost every song.
2. I’m cleaning out my closet. Shirts, pants, suits, shoes and anything else I don’t wear has got to go. Going to reduce my choices so I have a regular set of things to wear. This will give me the opportunity to add new, more trendy items.
3. I’ll go through all of my junk. Anything not used in a long time or without any meaning will go. I’ll toss some, sell some and donate some. This will include my studio and the garage. I have lots of art books, older tech gear and shelf souvenirs that I need to comb through. I may even get rid of my magic trick collection.
4. I’ll find a new podcast that I have never listened to before and I’ll listen to it weekly. Trying to avoid, news, politics and crime. Something fun and uplifting. Looking for something fun and inspirational that might also give me ideas for my own podcast.
5. I’m going to order something online every week just so I have something fun to look forward to in the mail. I’m not looking to spend lots of money, just create a constant flow of weekly deliveries.
6. I’m going to organize my bills and billing and get everything paid and billed on time every month. I will avoid late fees and getting billing done so late that people do not pay.
7. Although I have already started this I will continue to listen to one vinyl album every morning. For years I’ve gone without listening to anything in the morning. I’ll use it as inspirational white noise.
8. I’m going to shut down my online work around 11:45pm each night so I can get into bed closer to midnight. I hope to be getting 7 hours of sleep a night sometime soon.
9. I’m going to play my guitars every week. I’ll try to figure out the music to the 70s song I am writing. Playing the guitar is fun and relaxing. I’ve forgotten almost every song I once was able to play. Hopefully I’ll relearn a few of the oldies.
10. I’m going to plan a date night every month with my hot wife. Football season is pretty much taken care of because we are out of town almost every weekend already.
11. I plan on looking at the stars every night before going to bed. I used to do this really often but moved to an area that made it hard to see the dark sky. Now that I’m back in my prior home I can start that habit again.
12. It’s time to log every message, text, email and phone call. It’s frustrating knowing I need to contact someone but can’t recall where their original message came from. I may not be able to answer every contact but at least I’ll know what my current status is on return messages.
13. My wardrobe needs worked on and I want to purchase up-to-date clothing. My closet is full of shirts, pants and suits I’ve had for 5, 10 and 20 years. I’m going to keep up with the fashion trends and replace clothing more often.
14. I know I need more health screenings. Although I feel healthy I know at 60 years of age things can sneak up on me. Getting a few checkups will help me know what lifestyle changes I may need to make in order to reach my goal of living to 102.
15. I’ll meditate for 30 minutes each morning while on my walk/run. This is also something I currently do but not every day. I’ve learned that if I meditate and think about positive things many times they actually come to fruition very quickly.
16. I plan on buying and selling items online. I would love to flip vintage junk for a profit. The ultimate goal might be to open a vintage 70s shop one day to buy and sell great nostalgic items.
17. It’s time to fly my drone and take pics without having a drone license. I purchased a drone about 2 years ago and it is still sealed in the box. I’m going to get it going and learn to fly it for personal use. If I decide to use the photos for profit I’ll get my license then.
18. Decluttering my desk and keeping it cleaned off will be a high priority. I’ll find a spot for bills, tech gear and more. It seems like I am more productive when my desk is clear and I have a sense of accomplishment.
19. I’m going to keep a detailed calendar for work so I know what events are coming up and need to be attended. I missed a few local events just due to the fact that I had forgotten about them. A work schedule will motivate me to attend more happenings.
20. Adventure. Adventure. Adventure. I will plan and go on many more adventures. I have a list of fun adventures I have already done but seem to have slowed in the last couple of years. It’s time to schedule a few more bucket list type adventures.
