ENID, OK – It was Christmas of 1976 in Enid, Oklahoma and I was unwrapping gifts in our living room. As most parents do, my mom was snapping photos of my sister and I as we tore open each gift that she had so neatly wrapped. One iconic photo from that day has become cherished by many today.

At 13 years of age I had a huge crush on Farrah Fawcett Majors due to Charlie’s Angels coming out earlier that year. In December of 1976 I turned 14 years old and just 5 days later I celebrated Christmas. I don’t remember if I asked for the Farrah poster or if my mom just purchased it because she knew I was a big fan.

Early Christmas morning I unrolled that poster and my mom snapped the photo. The poster ended up on my Charlies Angels wall that was filled with other pictures of Farrah, Kate and Jaclyn. On opposing walls in my room there was a black light poster as well as posters of Linda Ronstadt, Cheryl Tiegs, Cheryl Ladd and the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders.

It wasn’t until a couple of weeks later that I was able to see the Christmas photos because they had to be sent off to be developed. At the time the photo didn’t seem to mean much or have any significance. But that one snapshot had captured a moment of happiness for many teenage boys in the 70s.

Fast forward to the 1990s when blogging became very popular online. I started a website under my own name at CurtisTucker.com and decided upon a 70’s dad blog theme. I began to scour everything I had for memories of the 1970s.

It was at this point that I ran across the photo again. The original photo from the film processor is only about 3 inches wide by 2 inches tall. It’s not a very big photo at all. I scanned the photo into a computer and added a short story about how the photo showed me holding the iconic Farrah poster in the 70s.

At the time, I was pretty good at SEO and was able to add the right tags and title on the photo for it to rank high in Google images for Farrah Fawcett poster searches. I toyed with the blog for several years but was never able to spend much time making it grow.

Fast forward again to June of 2009. That month I had gone to Cancun, Mexico and was enjoying a vacation when news came on the TV that Farrah had died. I was instantly heart broken. Farrah Fawcett had passed away at the age of 62 due to cancer.

At the time, all of my businesses were online and I was able to keep an eye on them from my computer. Later that day I noticed that my CurtisTucker.com website was no longer online. I did a quick investigation and discovered that all of the websites bandwidth had been used.

After scratching my head for a while I realized that people were searching for photos of Farrah Fawcett to go along with stories they were writing. Dozens of people had started linking to that photo causing the loss of my bandwidth. It wasn’t long before I had to add more bandwidth just to keep the website online.

A couple of days after Farrah’s death, CNN.com contacted me and asked if they could use the photo in a story and interview me for the article. I agreed and the photo was soon viewed by millions of people worldwide. HERE is the link to that CNN story.

Within the next few weeks I received requests for the photo to be used in magazines, blogs, books and even in a museum. The iconic photo has been posted and shared enough online that even when I took the website offline for a short period of time it could still be found.

2019 marks the 10 year anniversary of Farrah’s death. Earlier in the year I received a request from CNN again to use the photo in a 4 part docuseries they were producing called “American Style.” Part of the series included Farrah Fawcett along with her famous poster. They used the photo in her segment of the show.

Soon after the CNN show I was contacted by ABC News. They were putting together a 2 hour prime time special called “This Is Farrah Fawcett” and they wanted to include the photo. The show airs on Thursday, May 23, 2019 on ABC at 7:00pm CST.

Once again you’ll be able to see a younger me, with hair, holding that iconic Farrah poster. An image of her that will forever be locked in the memory of her fans and a photo of me that will forever hold the innocence and youth of growing up in the 1970’s, the greatest decade known to man.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The peaceful transfer of power from one administration to another is the hallmark of our American government. Inaugurating a new President is the biggest event for any political party and a production that is put on for the benefit of the public. I had the distinct privilege of covering the Presidential Inauguration for the community of Enid, Oklahoma in January 2017.

The adventure started with a simple blog post about tickets being given away in a random lottery drawing through our Senators office. You can read more about the beginning of the journey and how it all came together here. My wife Denise volunteered to be my assistant on this trip and took off work to travel with me. Our entire time in Washington D.C. was squeezed into 48 hours from the time we landed on Thursday to the time we took off again on Saturday.

Thursday, January 19 started out from OKC at 3:30am in the morning. We flew to Chicago and then to Washington D.C. Reagan National Airport is in Washington D.C. and is very close to downtown and all areas of the government. Two alternative airports are much further away and located in surrounding Virginia and Maryland. We arrived without incident around 11:00am where we were welcomed by one time Enid resident Annette Burgart.

This story has 2 more parts: Day Two Inauguration – Day Two Parade.

The first stop we made immediately after departing the plane was straight to the Pentagon. From the outside it looks almost like a normal building because you can’t see all of the other sides. Picture taking is not allowed in the Pentagon so I did not get inside photos.

The Pentagon is almost a city within a city with over 25,000 employees. Once you enter the series of buildings and hallways you quickly get the feeling that you are in a huge airport. There are restaurants, a credit union, hair salon, DMV, complete athletic center and more.

We were given a very rare personal tour of the Pentagon and got to see many aspects that a guided tour might not get to encounter. We had lunch in the dining area which resembled a mall food court with Burger King, Subway, Popeye’s and others. Dennis Burgart gave us a history lesson on the building and took us to the Pentagon Memorial area.

Although I did not get any inside photos of the Pentagon I did snap a pic of the courtyard in the middle of the complex. This is the only place you can use your cell phone. You supposedly can get from any place in the Pentagon to another in 12 minutes by using the corridors and the courtyard.

The hallways of the Pentagon are a huge military museum in themselves. You could spend hours reading history, looking at photos and touching artifacts. If you ever get a chance for a tour be sure and take it especially if you are interested in history and the military.

We left the Pentagon and traveled by Metro to Union Station. Buses were lined up everywhere, not waiting to move people, but to block any vehicles from being able to drive into the inauguration areas. From there we made our way to Senator James Lankford’s office in the Hart Senate Building. Sen. Lankford was having a reception for Oklahoman’s dropping by to pick up tickets. I don’t know how many tickets were given out but around 3500 people put their name in the lottery. We were invited back the next day if we needed a place to warm up.

Our inauguration ticket packet included an official invitation, a program, White House photos of the President and Vice President, 2 tickets to the orange section and an Oklahoma flag pin. The card on the bottom was our commemorative inauguration Metro card that got us anywhere the Metro went all day for just $10.

We left the senate building and crossed the street to the U.S. Capitol. This was the sidewalk and park out front. A nice couple stopped and asked if we wanted them to take our picture. The Capitol building was so much larger and cooler than I had imagined. We were able to walk right up to the front of the building. The sun was about to set and the temps were actually fairly warm.

The U.S. Capitol faces the Supreme Court, shown here, and the Library of Congress. Everything is just a quick walk across the street from each other. There is a street in between each building. Here I am facing the U.S. Capitol, which is to the west of these buildings.

We ran into this vehicle across the street from the Supreme Court. Not sure what it was being used for other than advertising. A news reporter from another station was sitting in the passenger seat doing a story.

This is the back of the U.S. Capitol where the inauguration took place. It faces west and looks over the National Mall. The National Mall runs from the back of the U.S. Capitol all the way to the Lincoln Memorial with the Washington Monument in the middle. These photos were taken the evening before the inauguration. We had full access to wander around up to a certain point. All of these areas were closed off for ticket holders only on inauguration day.

A closer shot of the back of the U.S. Capitol. The seats and our standing area were on the Capitol ground or West Lawn. Just behind me in this shot was the Capitol Reflecting Pool.

This is the Capitol Reflecting Pool just west of the Capitol Grounds. Beyond this is the National Mall which leads to the Washington Monument seen in the distance. Further west is the Lincoln Memorial. It is 1.9 miles between the Capitol and the Lincoln Memorial.

One of the best parts of the day was the fact that Pennsylvania Ave. was closed to traffic but not pedestrians. So we walked the exact route of the Inauguration Parade. On inauguration day this street was lined on both sides with police officers.

Along Pennsylvania Ave. we noticed a very large building with a tall clock tower. As we got closer we realized it was the Trump International Hotel. Very odd that he would be walking by his own hotel on inauguration day. This building was originally the U.S. Post Office. After sitting empty for years and being saved from demolition it was ultimately leased to Trump development which renovated the entire building.

In the middle of the National Mall sits the Washington Monument. We were told no other building in D.C. could be taller than the monument. Looking to the east you can see the Capitol, to the west you can see the Lincoln Memorial and to the north you can see the White House. From this location we could see and hear the Inauguration Concert featuring Lee Greenwood, Three Doors Down and Oklahoma’s Toby Keith. We did not make it to the Lincoln Memorial due to the concert barriers.

Looking north from the Washington Monument you can see the White House and South Lawn across the street. The streets around the White House had so many barriers we did not make it to the north side. After seeing this view we called it a day and headed to our host’s home for dinner and rest.

Of course you know by now that I absolutely love the 70s! Unfortunately for those of us that have the fondest memories of the greatest decade known to man, we don’t have many photos! I still haven’t found a photograph of my ten-year-old self wearing that stiff, plastic superhero mask with the elastic string tied onto it at Halloween. The one with the two tiny eye holes that allowed for viewing anything straight in front of you but nothing else. So many memories, adventures and events, but so little proof they ever happened.

We grew up in a time when there were no handheld devices with a camera attached. The best we had were our sleek 110 cameras that took the best blurred photos any kid ever captured. We’d run the roll of film down to the drug store so they could send it off for processing. Two weeks later, here came your shots! Some were dark, some out of focus, some showed a random part of the room because you clicked the button when you weren’t paying attention.

It didn’t matter how bad the photos were. If there were 12 pics on the roll, you were paying for 12 photos, good, bad or ugly. The best part was going out onto the sidewalk just so you could look through the small stack of prints. Bingo! Every now and then there was a single classic gem! Sometimes, you’d take a roll in with no idea what was on the negatives. That was always pure gold if the pics were from a forgotten memory.

Or, if you were lucky, you had a Polaroid camera that popped out the picture right after you took it. You’d fan the photo back and forth knowing that was going to help it develop faster. Slowly an image would begin to appear and after a minute or two you’d have a photo on a thick, weird piece of development paper. Those pics had more saturated color than most and they faded almost as quick as the flavor in your Double Bubble bubble gum.

All of the great pics were worthy of sticking in the photo album you got from Woolco that had the clear acetate covering you’d slide the photos under. Once arranged in some disorganized fashion you’d get to rub the acetate down to the sticky page so the photographs wouldn’t slide out. Forget putting those Polaroids in there, they were always a little thicker and caused the other photos to drop out.

Fortunately my mom and a few friends had a camera in hand at just the right time during memorable moments in the 70s. I don’t have stacks of photos from the 70s but the few that I do have are golden. I’ll be filling this page with the best of the best. These iconic 70s photos are from my collection and bring back so many memories. I hope you enjoy a little stroll down memory lane…

My most iconic photo! Luckily my mom decided to snap this pic as I unrolled my Farrah Fawcett posted for the first time at Christmas 1976. I have an entire blog post and podcast episode on how popular this photo has become. It’s been around the Internet a million times and is now a meme on most all nostalgia social media apps.

This is a great photo of my best friend Stayton with our dogs around 1975. My dog was Mister and his was Deanie. Stayton’s mom took the photo and put a black and white version of it on a plate that sits in my office today. Check out the hair and those shoes!

I’m still trying to figure out who took this photo but at this point I have no idea. Might have been my mom. This is Bruce and I on a sidewalk in our neighborhood. Every block had a sidewalk that allowed us to ride bikes and skateboards everywhere we went. I’m in my Fast Track sneakers with my knee high double ring socks! That’s a Grentech Coyote skateboard purchased from OTASCO. Bruce is on his super cool Raleigh 10-Speed with his triple ring knee high socks! Loving our cut-off jean shorts with my pocket sticking out. Also digging Bruce’s ringer t-shirt.

So here I am enjoying some Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band on a console stereo/8-track player in 1978. Gotta love the bean bag chair, 45’s and I Dream Of Jeanie lamp. I’m decked out in my bell bottoms, fuzzy, yarn slippers and very cool headphones.

My buddy Stayton and I started our own magic act. This pic was taken by my mom around 1975 during one of our performances in my garage. We charged the neighborhood kids 25 cents to watch the show. We eventually added a puppet show to the act where Stayton sang and played guitar while I worked the puppets. The designs on my shirt were ironed on by my mom. My top hat was collapsible and I believe came from my great grandfather. I love the old gas stove, refrigerator and Magnavox record player in the background.

First let me say I am not in this photo, I took the photo. This is Jackie playing my Ventura Les Paul copy. This is late 70s possibly 1979 in my bedroom on S. Grant in Enid, Oklahoma. You can see part of my pinup poster collection including my iconic Farrah poster. Did you spot my rotary phone on my turntable/8-track console? Check out those dangling yarn balls in the middle of the posters. I hand made those and hung them from the ceiling. Love those curtains!

This was such a great idea I tried it myself in 2011. The concept is to take an old photograph and return it to the location in which it was taken. You then position the old photo in your view to the exact spot where it was originally snapped and then take a new picture. The old photo then appears with a modern background behind it.

This great old black & white photograph was taken by my uncle Richard Scaling. He was a amateur photographer that spent his career in the Air Force as a pilot. He had his own dark room and would develop his own work including this photo.

The subjects in the photo are myself at around age ten or eleven, my sister, my mom and my grandmother. It was summer in the early 70′s. We were posing on the porch of my great-grandmothers Ethel Valentine Erwin’s home on S. Johnson in Enid, Oklahoma. At the time, my sister, my mom and I lived in the house directly across the street which allowed for our great-grandmother to keep an eye on us.

My great-grandmother eventually passed away and my grandmother, in the photo, moved into the home. She became a borderline hoarder and lived there until she passed away in the house. Ownership of the home went to my mother and my uncle.

While grandmother was living there, my mom purchased the home directly next door to this address and was living there. My uncle Richard had purchased the home directly behind my mom on the other side of the same block. They split rent on the home until he passed away one day without warning. My mother then became sole owner of the home.

My family has owned this home longer than I’ve been alive. I remember being dropped off as a young tyke so that my great-grandmother could watch me when my mom and sister were busy. She taught me how to play domino’s and canasta. I never remember her letting me win.

There was a special cabinet in the living room that had all of the things we could play with when we would go to visit. My favorite thing was a set of black and white Yorkie dogs that had magnets attached to their feet. I would play with those magnets for what seemed like hours. There was also a set of Pick Up Stix, marbles, cards and other games.

My great-grandmother always kept the house and yard immaculate. She was so tidy that she would trim grass with scissors if a blade or two were sticking out after the lawn guy left. She also had one of those plastic runners on the carpet to keep our shoes from getting the carpet dirty.

This was the home that we gathered at for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners every year. Great-grandmother would cook the turkey and many of the other things. This was the house that had the proverbial card table that my sister and I had to sit at when we had too many adults.

I remember there was a neat little strawberry patch in the backyard. It also had a cool old wooden boat of my uncles that sat in the driveway for years. This is a great old house with a large front porch full of family memories.

The modern photo background was taken in the summer of 2011. The irony of this photo is that after the passing of my great-grandmother, my grandmother, my uncle and my mother, I now own this family home as of 2022.

I built my first website in 1999 thinking I could upload my single panel cartoons and sell them online. That first entrepreneurial step turned into a 20 year career as an online entrepreneur.

I’ve been working for myself since about 2002 when I quit my full-time job to stay at home and earn money online. I left a director of advertising position of over ten years to be able to spend time with my daughters at home.

I’ve had a pretty crazy journey getting to where I am today. My path to becoming an entrepreneur has been anything but a straight line. I’ve had to pivot on several occasions and ended up working with technology that hadn’t been invented when I first began.

I was asked to speak to young entrepreneurs at the NWOSU Entrepreneur Seminar in 2020. Part of my speech was telling my journey from employee to business owner. This is the video of my story. It’s a pretty amazing ride when you hear it and realize that it all happened out of a bedroom in Enid, Oklahoma.

I would definitely say that if I can make it as an entrepreneur doing the things that I’ve done then anyone has the opportunity to do the same. It all amounts to how much effort you are willing to put in and are you willing to take risks.

Take a look at my story and learn how I went from selling Jolly Ranchers at junior high to running an online media company providing news and information to many thousands of people.

The first video is the trailer for my entrepreneur podcast called That Buzz Guy along with the podcast below it. The bottom video is from my talk on being an entrepreneur at the NWOSU Entrepreneur Seminar.

There are countless articles online telling you how to start a business online. They all pretty much tell you to start a blog, podcast, YouTube channel, etc. Most only give you examples of the platforms out there rather than give you the ideas on subjects and examples.

This blog post is all about ideas! Here are 100 crazy, wacky and unique subjects that you can use to launch your side gig. My intent is for you to take any one of these ideas and create multiple versions of your own.

An example would be to start a blog about cooking the best Mexican dishes. You can take that idea, twist it, and start a blog or video channel about baking desserts, creating original soups, using only pressure cookers, cooking on a grill, etc.

You’ve got to find something that you are interested in and thousands of others are interested in. Not hundreds of thousands or millions, just enough to create a loyal following. You can’t create a podcast for everyone or it’ll be impossible to reach anyone. You need to have a niche audience or targeted group of followers.

You’re going to hear me tell you to just get started over and over again. I truly mean that. Use one of these ideas to set things in motion. Once you’re going you’ll start to figure things out and an idea is going to pop out of nowhere. Many great business ideas have come as a spinoff from an existing business.

Use these business ideas to get going. See if you can combine two or three of these ideas into something new. Test and ask your listeners for ideas and suggestions. Let me know if these spark a unique idea.

Joining affiliate programs is a great way to make money on the side without much effort. Here are a few of the programs I am currently signed up for. Being an affiliate basically means you send traffic to another business and when a purchase is made you profit from a small percentage of the sale. There are affiliate programs for any kind of business you can imagine.

How do you find affiliate programs? There are several ways to find money making programs. You can search for the top affiliate networks that combine dozens of affiliates all in one place. Or you can go to some of your favorite websites and look in the footer of the homepage. Usually there will be a link called Affiliates and that will lead you to more information.

My links are below, a few of them I shortened at TinyURL. I will add more as I join them. I’ll let you know which one work the best also. If you click on one of these and sign up or make a purchase I will make a small amount of income so thank you! Check them out!

Robinhood – This is a fantastic affiliate program. When you download the app you get a free stock! That’s pretty cool. Most people end up with a $4-5 stock. When I personally signed up I got a Microsoft stock worth $156 at the time! The affiliate program allows you to invite friends to sign up and when they sign up under your link you will get a free stock when they get a free stock. I earned an extra $75 when I posted my link. I had 13 people sign up almost immediately. The chance at a $156 stock is enticing!

https://join.robinhood.com/curtist455
https://tinyurl.com/RHBuzz

Fiverr – This is not only a great affiliate to join but it’s a great place to make money from home. If you have a skill or are creative you can pick up tons of jobs from this website. Check it out and see if you can start a side gig.

https://track.fiverr.com/visit/?bta=86036&nci=7416
https://tinyurl.com/fivrrbuzz

HostGator – I host my WordPress websites at HostGator. I believe everyone needs a website! Get yours hosted here. I’ve purchased a multi-website package and I host some of my websites there and some of my clients. The payments from my clients cover the cost of my hosting so I’m basically hosting my sites for free!

https://partners.hostgator.com/c/2231139/176502/3094
https://tinyurl.com/gatorbuzz

Buzzsprout – I use this company for hosting That Buzz Guy podcast. They are offering a referral offer without even having to sign up as an affiliate. If you click on my link and sign up for podcast hosting they will give you a $20 Amazon gift card and they’ll give me one!!
